International Relief Teams (IRT) - Pakistan

Immediately following the devastating earthquake in Pakistan, International Relief Teams arranged for nearly 2.5 tons of emergency medicines (worth about $200,000) to be airlifted to the region. Through its organizational contacts, IRT is able to significantly leverage the donations it receives to purchase substantial amounts of medicines.

In response to the international outcry for immediate shelter, IRT is currently directing its efforts to procuring winterized tents. Nearly 3,000,000 people are left homeless in Pakistan following the earthquake and winter is rapidly approaching, with rain, sleet, hail and snow already being reported. Nearly 70,000 people were killed by the earthquake, and the UN now warns that at least that many more will be killed by the approaching Himalayan winter soon to descend upon the still vulnerable population.

As a result of this developing (and rapidly deteriorating) situation, International Relief Teams believes the best thing to do to help save lives now is to help provide the many tens of thousands of helpless and defenseless survivors with shelter.

Depending upon available resources and the need in Pakistan, IRT will may also send volunteer doctors (including surgeons) and nurses to the region.

IRT is one of the most efficient organizations in the world:

IRT's administrative overhead is less than 3% (audited statements can be found online at www.irteams.org), and for the second consecutive year, IRT has received the highest (4-star) rating from Charity Navigator, America's largest independent evaluator of charities. Only 5% of the more than 4,260 charities evaluated have ever been awarded the highest rating! (www.CharityNavigator.org)
