The goal of the Apprentice Ecologist Initiative is to engage hundreds of kids and teens from around the world in litter cleanup projects. Litter spoils nature's beauty and often harms or kills wildlife; we need your help to clean it up!

Here's how to become an Apprentice Ecologist and get a personalized Certificate of Achievement signed by a Ph.D. in Ecology:

    1. Take a trip to a mountain, river, shoreline, beach, park, or wilderness area with friends or family.

    2. Pick up litter and take a few digital photos* of your cleanup in action.

    3. Send an essay about your trip, your favorite photo, and your name, age, and address (for certificate) to mail@wildernessproject.org.

After completing steps 1-3 we will publish your story on the Nicodemus Wilderness Project website (www.wildernessproject.org), enter you in our Registry of Apprentice Ecologists, and award you with an official certificate (printed with your name or group name**) that is suitable for framing. An Organic Cotton T-shirt with our logo and the words Apprentice Ecologist will be awarded to the authors of the 10 best stories on an annual basis. This project will help build a strong resume or college application!

*If you do not have access to a digital camera, we will waive the requirement for a photo.

**Groups are highly encouraged to participate in this program! Each participant and the group-as-a-whole will be awarded a certificate.
